Ayla Gets Tubes

Today Blair and I took Ayla to get tubes in her ears.  She's had so many ear infections that Dr. Ciaccio recommended it since she is susceptible to them for a few more years.  I'm personally so glad that she's getting them so that she doesn't have to feel any more pain!  Dr. Fairchild said that Ayla wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything past midnight.  I was nervous about that since she usually wakes about 6 am to nurse.  So we decided to keep her awake until about 9:00pm the night before in hopes that she would sleep a little later this morning.  She woke up around 6:30 and was such a good little girl.  We had to be at the hospital by 7:30.  I got her signed in, and while we waited for her name to be called, she flirted with all the old grandmas and grandpas who were in the waiting room.  When we got called back, the nurses had us change her into a gown.  She looked so cute!  By 8:00, Abe was starving and getting tired, but she wasn't allowed to eat anything yet.  We had to keep her occupied so she wouldn't throw a fit in the room!  Finally at 8:30 Patsy Noe came and found us, grabbed Ayla and then they whisked her away.  We had to wait out in the waiting room for her to have her surgery, and within 5 minutes they called us back to Ayla's room.  Dr. Fairchild said that Ayla did wonderful during the surgery, and when we finally got to see her, she was laying in a fat lady's arms sucking down a bottle of Pedialite!  The nurses said she was so good and she never cried once.  She went right to sleep and woke up the moment they were finished.  We were so proud of our little girl!  They had us wait for about 30 more minutes before we could leave so they could watch Ayla and make sure she didn't have any strange reactions.  She did great and we left the hospital by 9:30am.  I can't believe how easy the surgery was for Ayla!  Now I just hope that she doesn't get any more ear infections!!!  :-)

A Big Talker

We've been noticing Ayla talking a lot more lately.  She really listens to what we're saying and she tries to talk back.  I notice her watching my mouth move and she works on mimicking us all the time.  Within the last few days she has been caught saying hello, hi, moooo, dada, blah blah, and mmmmm.  I have a feeling that before too long she's going to start tying to talk in sentences!

10 Months

Ayla is a complete joy to have in our lives.  She's full of energy and attitude.  She has the ability to make people stop, smile, and enjoy her everywhere she is.  She keeps us on our toes and she's the complete best part of each and every day we live now.  We love our baby so much!

At 10 months, Ayla Can/Does/Is:
  • Extremely opinionated and strong headed
  • Only wants to feed herself
  • Can point with one finger
  • Trying to walk down the stairs now - yeah we ordered a baby gate and it came in last night.  We'll be putting it up ASAP
  • Finds pictures of people all around the house - she points to people in them and wants you to tell her who they are
  • Every time she wakes up - nap time or morning - she points to the pictures at the top of her bookshelf and wants you to take her to look at them (they are all of Blair, Ayla, and me)
  • Loves eating peaches, pears, applesauce, carrots, green beans (still her absolute favorite), pancakes, puffs, yogurt & yogurt melts.  She's trying new things, but a little bit iffy at first
  • It working on drinking out of a sippy cup and a straw - she doesn't quite have it figured out just yet
  • Leans over her highchair, spits food onto the floor, and watches it fall.  Scientist??  Or just testing gravity??
  • Has learned how to unravel a toilet paper roll
  • Is starting to say "Mmmmm" when she likes something that she's eating
  • Is a squirmy wormy on the changing table - I usually have to lay her back down at least twice between changings right now!
  • Starting to stay focused on a book being read to her a little bit more
  • Likes to spit food out of her mouth like a rocket (I have no clue why she's started doing this)
  • Plays "Chicken" while crawling at a fast pace straight toward you - and when you get to each other she tries to butt heads with you haha!  She giggles all the way
  • Is ticklish at her ribs and belly
  • Blows raspberries at you after you tell her "no"
  • She understands the word "no" and she follows it about 95% of the time
  • Makes the clicking sound with her tongue on the roof of her mouth
  • Can say "Da -Da" and "Bye-Bye"
  • Gives kisses goodbye
  • Is starting to say "hello?" when she plays with a phone (it really sounds more like "hoe" at this point in time, but we're working on her manners)  hehe
  • Has learned how to open up cabinet drawers
  • She likes to pull out the measuring cups and bang them together
  • Loves being chased
  • Weighs almost 20 pounds
  • Likes to make you laugh
  • Is completely walking - almost speed walking now!
Sweetest baby in the whole wide world.  I just love her personality!

A Day at The Playscape

One other thing I really wanted to do over my Winter Break was take Ayla to The Children's Museum.  So Fancy, Ayla, and I went for the afternoon toward the end of the break.  The Playscape is an area that is for infants up to 5 years old, and since Ayla can walk with the best of them now, she fit right in!  She tried to touch the water, she walked through the area with play toys, and she pushed through bigger kids to get to a balls area.  I was really proud of her for how confident she was in herself!  After we were finished with The Playscape area, we went to a dollhouse section and Ayla loved walking through all the homes.  She sat with The Three Bears and had a little tea party, and found one of those old lawn mowers that she would not let go of.  She stayed up way past her nap time and had so much fun.  I'm really glad we went and it definitely won't be the last time!
