Hand Foot & Mouth Oh My!

We started out the weekend happy and healthy in Salem for Nini and Ayla's birthdays.  Friday night we hung out with KK, Auntie LeeLee, Nini, and Pappaw.  It was so nice to relax.  We all went to bed around 10:00 and by 2:30 Ayla was awake.  She wouldn't let you put her down, so she eventually ended up sleeping with us.  (There's a first time for everything I guess!)  She acted fine on Saturday morning, but by the afternoon she started running a 101 fever.  We gave her some medicine and she seemed fine for the majority of the evening.  She blew out birthday candles, opened some awesome birthday presents from the Hollowell's, ate dinner, and ran around with KK.  The girls took a bath together that evening and then shortly after, Ayla went to sleep.  She was up at 2:30 am again and slept with us for the 2nd night in a row.  Her fever was back, and it never left before we ended up leaving Salem on Sunday - poor little girl.
She was up all night Sunday night as well with a fever but we figured it was probably all teething related.  We knew she had started cutting a tooth in the upper, back, left.  We decided to send her to daycare on medicine and tell them that she was definitely teething and would probably be cranky.  That afternoon, they text messaged me right as my students left and told me that Ayla had a 101 fever again.  So I left school as quickly as I could and went to pick her up.  They told me that she shouldn't come back to daycare Tuesday because of her fever and that was totally fine with me - I'll never pass up the opportunity to snuggle my little baby girl!  But when we got home, I noticed a spotty rash on her neck, belly, and back.  It wasn't like the patchy rash she had with the Roseola.  It was more like little red dots.  I called the doctor, and made an appointment for her to go in a 3:30 the next day.  That evening, Ayla was up again at 2:30, but this time she didn't have a fever.  Thank goodness!  Blair stayed home with her in the morning and then I came home from work at noon to take her for the rest of the day.
By the time I got her to the doctor, her rash had spread to her legs and face.  And she was quickly confirmed as having the virus Hand, Foot, and Mouth.  It's highly contagious and it is conducted orally.  They said there is nothing we can do except to give her medicine to relieve any pain she may get from the rash, but it shouldn't be much.  Apparently Ayla had a few spots on the bottom of her feet and the palms of her hands as well.  Luckily, they didn't see any in her mouth which are supposed to be the most painful, but there is still time for some of them to show!  They said she was probably in day two of the approx. 5 day cycle.  She would have one more day of the rash, and then it would probably start to go away by Thursday.  And she would most likely be able to go back to daycare by Friday.
The doctor said the other reason for her fever was probably because she had decided to cut 3 molars all at the same time - her two bottom and the top left!  Ayla's motto is probably going to be "Go Big or Go Home".
So for now, Fancy is going to keep her on Wednesday and Blair and I will split Thursday.  If she is not okay to go back to daycare on Friday, Blair will keep her all day, and then I'll be on spring break!  I decided that Ayla just wanted me to have a prolonged vacation.  She's such a thoughtful little girl!  :-)

Sweet KK

Two little cousins just lounging around!

Does it surprise you that Ayla is begging at Nini's feet to watch Elmo on the laptop??

Horsey Blair

Nini was so proud that Ayla reached for her to pick her up

Either KK wants to be the baby or she wants a baby sibling of her own!!  ;-)

Happy Birthday!

Present time!

Ayla loved the popper toy she got from KK!

Excuse the booty and pooty pics!  But you know we have to document Ayla's first and hopefully only attempt at Hand Foot and Mouth!  Note the bumpy rash - poor, sweet little babe

One more sickness in the books!  Guess who will probably have perfect attendance in kindergarten!  :-)
