Abe's 1st Thanksgiving

I remember only imagining the day that I would have my own baby to feed Thanksgiving food to!  Today my dreams came true.  Alya loved eating green beans and homemade noodles (she's officially one of us).  We stayed in Indianapolis for Thanksgiving Day and spent time with family at Fancy and Grand Dude's house.  Ali came in to town and it was so good to see her!  Ainsley and Landrey are getting so big.  Ainsley played with Ayla like she was a real live baby doll.  It was too cute.  We also got to see Chad and Angie.  I love it when they come into town and we get to catch up with them!  The day was too fast, but we had a great time.
On Black Friday we went to Salem.  We went down to hang with family and to purchase a new vehicle!  I'm so excited about it.  When we got to the dealership, they had the car ready and waiting for us to test drive it.  It was beautiful!  A Slate Gray, Charcoal Interior Ford Explorer.  We drove it around Salem and by the time we got back to the dealership, I had already pre-set my Sirius Radio Stations.  lol  We went in, signed the papers, and just like that we had a new vehicle!  The only downfall is that we have a small car payment again.  Blair and I were definitely used to being debt free except for our house.  We'll get back there soon.  But in the mean time - we're going to completely enjoy our new car!  We decided to call it "The Grey Goose".  While down in Salem, Teri fixed a Big Dog Thanksgiving Meal.  Delicious as always!  And then she and Bobby kept Ayla and KK so that Craig, Lesley, Blair, and I could go see a movie.  I can't remember the last movie we had seen in the theatres.  We went and saw Last Vegas.  A very good choice, and it was nice to have a date night.  The next day we drove home so that we could have a couple days at home before going back to work.  In only a few weeks I'll be on Christmas Break!  And that is something I absolutely cannot wait for!

Miss Landrey Lou - cute as can be!

The Joys of Feeding Yourself

Ayla wants to be so independent lately.  This includes her feeding herself rather than having someone help her.  I know that her highchair and the floor around it are going to be dirty after every meal, but how can you say no to that messy little face and those big blue eyes?!

A Christmas Tradition

We put up our Christmas tree a week before Thanksgiving this year because I’m learning that you just have to get things done when you have time!  We were going to be staying up at my parent’s house for Thanksgiving this year which meant I was in charge of pies and dressing.  And we were going to be leaving for Salem the next day.  So the tree up, the week before Thanksgiving sounded good to us!  I was especially excited this year because it was going to be the first time Ayla saw a Christmas tree!  I wondered what she would do when she saw it….and she did absolutely nothing.  She’s the perfect child who can crawl with the best of them and she has yet to go up to the tree and try to pull off anything!  (I realize how well-behaved of a child she is more and more each day.)  J

My very favorite part of putting up the Christmas tree when I was little, was finding my very first ornament that my parents ever got me and putting it on the tree myself.  This year, Blair and I got to hang Ayla’s first ornament.  And it means so much to me.  I picked it out special to describe what she means to us and what I think of each time I look at her.  It’s a silver cross with pink and blue stained glass in it.  And at the bottom of the cross is a charm that hangs.  On it it reads – God Hears Our Prayers.  I can’t describe the journey Blair and I went through to get Abe better than that.  And now, Ayla can carry on the tradition of hanging her own first Christmas ornament each time we put up the tree.

Theara Comes to Town!

Theara is our Cambodian translator who everyone in the world absolutely loves.  I don't know anyone who doesn't crack up at her and the things she does and says.  I was so excited for Ayla to get to meet Theara.  She prayed alongside me the entire time we waited for Miss Ayla to come into this world.  Theara stayed the night at my mom and dad's house.  We went over after I picked up Ayla from daycare.  Blair met us there.  We ate chicken, asparagus (a first for both Abe and Theara), and homemade mac 'n cheese.  She loved the meal.  Theara loved holding and playing with Ayla.  She even played the Cambodian version of "peek-a-boo" with her - which goes something like covering her eyes, and then shouting "Buh Uuh!"  Ayla wasn't too sure about it.  Haha!  We all laughed for a bit and then we had to take Ayla home for bed.  It was a very short trip this year, but any time we can ever get with Sister Theara is a blessing!

It's safe to say they like each other

A Wedding, A Funeral, & One Sick Baby

This week is going in the books as extremely unforgettable.
I had a feeling that Ayla was getting sick again.  On top of cutting her 2nd tooth and sporting a runny nose, she has stopped sleeping through the night, so I took her to the doctor.  She had another double ear infection, so they gave her a new medicine called Suprax.  It was supposed to be $125.00, but they gave me a coupon so it was only $30 instead.  I about died when it was 9:00 pm and I had waited in the pharmacy line for 40 minutes just to hear them tell me that the medicine was going to be that much money.  Ayla was screaming and crying in the back of the car because she just wanted to go home and sleep - Stressful night to say the least.
So throughout the week, I started giving her the medicine, and it wasn’t working, so I called the doctor again and the nurse practitioner called in some ear drops that she had researched.  Usually when I get a prescription for Ayla it’s like $2.00, but this one was another $30 prescription.  I was so frustrated when the drops weren’t making Ayla feel better either.
I waited until Friday afternoon to call the doctor to see how long it would be before she started feeling the effects of the drops and they called me back on my way home with Ayla from daycare.  They told me to stop with the drops and that Dr. Ciaccio was going to call in something stronger.  We were sitting in rush hour traffic on Southport Road, when the next thing I knew we were being blasted from behind by another car!  The woman must have not been paying attention because she plowed into the back of Old Blue and scared the crud out of Ayla and me!  Ayla wasn’t making any sound, so I freaked out.  I jumped out of the car and threw open her door.  She started screaming crying and I got her out of her seat as fast as I could.  The woman who hit us ran up to our car and immediately started crying when she realized that Ayla had been in the back seat.  Abe was fine, but we ended up causing a huge traffic jam for the next hour and a half while we wrote up police reports and had an ambulance check out Ayla to make sure she was okay.  I guess it’s mandatory to have a baby looked at on the scene of an accident if they are considered an infant.  Her pulse was a tiny bit high, but they said she was fine.  Blair had met us there at the scene and helped me through all the paperwork.  He kept Ayla warm in Black Betty while everything was finalized.  Old Blue was barely drivable, so he drove him home, while I followed with the flashers on.  We were planning on heading down to Salem that evening for Haley’s wedding, so we packed up and headed down.  We got there later than planned, but at least we all made it in one piece.  Now it will be interesting to see what we do about a 2nd vehicle!
Haley’s wedding was beautiful.  Shelley decorated the church, all the bridesmaids’ dresses were black with lace, and they were so happy to get married!  We ate dinner at the Spring Mill Inn (where they got engaged).  The food was so good and it the reception hall was gorgeous.  Kinsley loved dancing and she didn’t want to leave.  Ayla on the other hand was tired right away and wanted to go home as soon as we ate.  Allie came to Abe’s rescue and held her all night long.  Ayla just laid her head on Allie and let her hold her all night long.  I told Allie that I wished she lived up in Indianapolis so she could babysit.
It was a long weekend.  We had fun being at home in Salem, and I’m just glad that we’re all still in one piece!

Poor Ol' Blue.  She really got us good...
