A Present from Fancy & Grand Dude
Fancy decided that since Ayla is able to see so much more lately, she needed a floor toy. She obviously needs to get used to it. :-)

Fighting Your Sleep? OR Acid Reflux?
Ayla gave us a real scare this past Sunday evening when she couldn't seem to catch her breath. It was a constant struggle, but she didn't seem phased by it herself. (She only had my heart racing trying to figure out what was going on.) :-) We happened to be at Fancy and Grand-Dude's house - yep he wants to be called Grand-Dude - so we called our trusty neighbor Patsy over to see if she could diagnose. She listened to her lungs and they were clear, suggested that we call the doctor and get her in the next day. We did exactly that and found out that our Little Miss Ayla Blair is working with some acid reflux. So for now, we're instructed to keep her upright for at lease 20 - 30 minutes after eating and then to have her sleep on an incline. We are keeping her in her rock 'n play for now, but we may try the old "phone books under one side of the crib" bit so that we can keep her used to her bed. We'll see how that one goes and just play it all by ear. So another 1st for Ayla! (Her 1st $30 co-pay at the dr.)
Along with the reflux issue, it seems that Ayla has started to fight her sleep a little bit more lately. She wants to be held for as long as she can stay awake, and don't even think about putting her down until she's completely out! Here are a couple of her more interesting sleeping positions as of today.

Are you hiding your eyes? Does this make your belly feel better? Either way, I was not allowed to move from this spot for at least 30 minutes! |

Hanging Out with an Old Friend
Mady Johnson, our old neighbor from Wildcat Run came over to visit the other night. We ate tacos and drank Summer Beer in memory of "the old days". She couldn't wait to meet Miss Ayla. She held her all evening. And she also made her a beautiful blanket! We thought it was really special.

FINALLY Some Time with Antie Moo Moo!
Angie aka "Auntie Moo Moo" finally got to have Ayla all to herself the other night. She held her all evening and fed her a bottle. Note the adorable little clip she brought Ayla too! We love it!

Ayla's 1st Trip to Salem
We took you on Ayla's 1st trip to Salem, Indiana this past weekend. We stayed for the whole weekend and she was such a good girl! She slept 7 hours the 1st night we were there. (The longest she's slept yet.) Blair and I couldn't believe it when we looked at the clock and it read 5:00 am!
While we were down in Salem, everyone had a baby shower for Ayla. Everyone brought her all sorts of adorable clothes to wear. People were so excited to meet her, look at her, and hold her. Aunt Shelley also made a sign to go above Ayla's bed. It's beautiful.
Before we left for the weekend, we drove Ayla by the cemetery to meet her great grandpa Dale and her great grandpa Paul. We really wish she would have had a chance to meet them before they passed away. We know they would have loved to meet her!

I Can See!
Something new Ayla started to do today is focus on the mobile in her swing. I looked over at her and noticed her just staring at the red fish above. So I turned on the mobile and watched Ayla's eyes follow each fish as they went around in circles. I absolutely love watching her learn and discover new things!

A Visit to Ball State University
We took Ayla to see her Uncle X up at Ball State. This was a special trip because Blair and I both went to college there. We visited Tyler's house on Neely St. and he got to feed Ayla a bottle. While we were up in Muncie, we took her to her very first restaurant - Scotty's Brewhouse. She slept the whole time and was a perfect angel!

One Month Already
It's crazy to think that sweet little miss Ayla has been in our lives for one whole month now. She's gotten very social lately. She's starting to look around the room and focus on things little by little. It seems that she's finding her voice somewhat too. One tiny shout means she wants someone to pay attention to her. She will usually wait patiently for someone to hear her, but every once in a while she doesn't seem to feel like waiting. That's when her dad hops right up and gets her. She's got him wrapped around her finger already!
Ayla weighed in at 9 pounds, 9 ounces at the doctor this week. Dr. Ciaccio asked how she's eating and sleeping. I told her she eats great! And she sleeps wonderfully. Twice this past week Ayla pulled 6 and 7 hour sleep stretches at night. Her dad and I talked about how it's been a whole month now since we've gotten that much consistent sleep!
Ayla is such a good girl and so darn cute. We can't wait to see what this next month brings!
I know you're adorable. You don't have to say it. |
A Bath Time First
This week Ayla put her daddy through the ringer when she decided to go "boo-boo" in the tub. He yelled for me, but I didn't hear him, so he had to clean it up himself. He said he was holding her with one arm and dumping out her tub with the other. He had to wash it all out and then re-wash her! The whole time Ayla just layed there completely happy. I wonder if she just wanted to see what he would do! (She might be more like me than I thought!)
Lots of New Friends
We've been taking time to build the "Friend Zone" lately. It's never too early!
You and Baby Paiton are only about 2 weeks apart in age. You will have a good time growing up with her! |
